LGBT Discrimination in Springfield

Facing Intolerance from Wittenberg University (Springfield, Ohio)

Recently the Springfield Human Relations Board presented a report to the City Commissioners about LGBT discrimination in Springfield. The board has found that discrimination does exist and therefore is recommending the City Commission make LGBT a legally protected class to prevent discrimination like this in the future. In 2012 the board had not recommended this change and the City Commission voted 3-2 against adding LGBT as a protected class in Springfield. Though the board has now changed it’s opinion on this issue, the City Commissioners have not changed since the time of the vote and whether or not their opinions on the issue has changed as well is yet to be seen.

Check out an article written by Springfield News Sun that talks more in depth about the history of this issue in Springfield.
