This week’s featured story, Being the Key, comes from Facing Autism in Muncie, Indiana.
When Lisa first learned about autism in the 1980s, people didn’t really know much about it at all. Children on the autism spectrum were diagnosed and put into a different school that didn’t offer much of an education. Lisa found her calling while in college, and decided that she wanted to help individuals facing autism.
Although I wasn’t receiving any encouragement, I knew I was supposed to learn more about autism. Bit by bit, I was starting to become the key that could help families turn that autism lock.
Lisa has worked for special education programs, but continued to mainly focus on autism throughout the years. She has started informative teaching services and is helping to create more keys to unlock the person inside our autistic child.
