In late spring we announced our partnership with 14 state Campus Compacts that will bring the Facing Project model to 70 new campuses/communities across the country. Over the past few weeks we have announced them on our site as the colleges and universities are selected in each state. This week we are excited to announce three new Iowa-based projects through the partnership with Iowa Campus Compact.
Clarke University (Dubuque, IA): Facing Discrimination—Marshallese Stories
Under the direction of Master’s-level graduate student Suzie Stroud, in partnership with the Inclusive Dubuque Network, this Facing Project will tell the stories of Marshallese immigrants.
Cornell College (Mount Vernon, IA): Facing Free Speech
Under the direction of student leader Emma Kaboli and the college’s Director of Civic Engagement, Katie Wilson, this Facing Project will work with multiple student organizations and offices to tell stories across difference to increase civil discourse on campus.
University of Northern Iowa (Waterloo, IA): Facing Community Belonging and Citizenship
Under the direction of Angela Waseskuk from the university’s Art Department, in partnership with the Waterloo Writing Project, this Facing Project will share the voices and visions of Waterloo’s youth.
These Facing Projects will bring together community partners, college students, storytellers, writers, artists, volunteers and their broader communities to learn from the first-person stories of their neighbors—and to be inspired by the stories to create new, hyper-local conversations and action.
